There are two main types of filling material, silver amalgam and tooth coloured composite, they both have their place in certain situations, and there are certain situations where it would not be a good idea for a particular material to be placed in your tooth. There will be a discussion with you as to the relative merits of the materials for your circumstances before agreeing on a suitable material.
If you have a tooth coloured filling, we will often us a sheet of rubber (rubber dam) to seal the tooth from saliva and keep it as dry as possible during the bonding, so that your filling has the maximum chance of durability. We will try our utmost to make your tooth coloured filling look as natural as possible – but there are limits of course!
